Kerry doing well

28 Nov

Hi all, this is Phil writing from Harefield and first time I’ve tried to write Kerry’s blog so hopefully this will work!

I spent a couple of hours with Kerry yesterday morning and she was vaguely aware but very confused, in the evening Judy was back over and we sat with her for a bit and she seemed to be more and more aware of us. This morning Kerry asked what had gone on and where was she so we again explained all that had happened. I also told her that it was Mr Simon who had performed the surgery so she would only have the little scars and she smiled.

Also her told her about our naughty Disney who escaped again on Sunday through the cat flap at my parents house. Kerry definately mouthed bad dog!

As she is on the ventilator she cannot speak so we are having to become lip reading experts which is very hard for us and also very frustrating for Kerry. This afternoon I spoke with Mr Simon who said he was very pleased with how she is doing and the next aim is to get her off the ventilator and in his words “get her out of here!”. Difficult to know what to say to the man who saved Kerry’s life so I could only say thank you on behalf of everyone.

Kerry was about to have her wash and dressings changed when I left her but seemed quite happy and smiled when I said Judy would be in later on and I said I’d be back to say gnite. Thank you to everyone for your support and continued prayers and wishes please keep the positive thoughts coming x

Hi Phil, wonderful news. Use an alpahabet board for Kerry to spell out words if needed, but you probably won’t need it for long enough. We made our own, for Dan, and had some pretty hysterical moments. We are thrilled that there is progress – very heartwarming and thank you so much for letting us know… still keeping up dem positive vibes!

    Love Carolyn and David xxxxxxxx

That is such great news. You must be so relieved that kerry is now waking up and will soon realise the op has happened and she is on the way to recovery and a new life. It is very hard for us all to imagine what it has been like for you all but rest assured there are still many thoughts and prayers coming your way.

So touching, Phil, and we can tell from your account that even if Kerry can’t communicate much yet, she’s definitely still the person she always was!
So many parallels in Kerry’s story to the girl whose story was televised on the BBC 3 programme last night “Love on the Transplant List”. What an insight that gave into the whole ordeal, both pre and post-operative, and amazing to think that Kerry could be up and about in a couple of months if things progress in a similar way.
It was a great advertisement of the importance of being a registered donor also.
    All our love, Jackie

    Hi Phil,
We’ll certain keep prayers and thoughts coming for Kerry. She was uppermost in our minds at last night’s St. Ouen Prayer Lighthouse – and the evening coincidentally finished with a TV programme about a 21 year old lady in Harefield undergoing the same operation. Withing relatively few weeks, the young lady was out walking with her new husband and her dog. – Wonderful.
    Love to you all.

Thanks for the update, Phil. It was lovely to read this and I loved the point about what to say to the evidently wonderful Mr Simon! Watched the Kirstie doc this evening which had so many parallels and gave us some closer insights into what Kerry, you and all the family have been through, and also what Harefield is like. Love from us all, James and co.
